The outgoing BMW 5 Series F10 2011 may have ushered in a dramatic leap forward in terms of dynamics, technology, safety and creature comforts, but it's the previous generation – the E39 – that Bimmerphiles still speak of in hushed tones. The departing E60 may have been a more capable package, but it was also the source of much controversy and hand wringing. Blame Chris Bangle. Blame byzantine iDrive menu structures. Blame spirit-muffling layers of electronics. Hell, blame improved competition or hidebound brand loyalists who refuse to accept the new. No matter whose camp you point the finger at, the 2004-2010 5 Series was a polarizing creature, both aesthetically and from behind the wheel. Despite (or perhaps because of) all this, BMW enjoyed record-setting global sales of the Fiver, suggesting that that the traditionalists had it all wrong.

Still, one look at the new-for-2011 F10 model might reasonably lead you to believe that a bit of mulligan has occurred at the hand of Adrian van Hooydonk and his design team – a toning down of the E60's most divisive elements. To be sure, the E60's Dame Edna spectacles have been consigned to a dusty drawer and the raised "Bangle Butt" has kept its date with Celebrity Fit Club. In the not-so-dearly departed's place is a handsome new sedan that appears simultaneously more in line with the 5 Series' lineage yet firmly set on the future. But to label the sixth-generation Fiver as an aesthetic or strategic regression would be incorrect, van Hooydonk tells us. As he points out, BMW design has a tendency to periodically muscle in with big, bold, design statements – to knock down walls – and in the follow-up model, its stylists can move about a bit more in the clean air made possible by its predecessor. Fair enough – we prepared to check our Weltschmerz at the door and give this new Fiver a shot. Has it all been worked out for the better? BMW invited us to hop a couple of planes to Portugal in order to find out.

Bmw F30 Nice Review

The next generation F30 BMW 3 Series shows up again in the front of the lens of spy photographers, but this time, the test mule are revealing slightly more design details. As expected, the new 3er gets a full LED treatment.

At the front, the white Corona ring headlights seem to be slightly longer than the current model with the side indicators placed just underneath the main “character line”. In the back, LED taillights are still mostly covered and the final design and shape are still a guessing game. (More photos at WCF)

The test mule spotted also features the “usual” LED strips in the side mirrors, a common element in early prototypes. But this time, the BMW insider Scott27 states that due to upcoming legislations both in the US and Europe, the side indicators need to be placed higher and more visible. Without a second source to confirm this, we will label it as a rumor for now.

We learned in the past that the new 3 Series is built on a new modular platform and design wise, it returns to the “slimmer look”, dynamic lines with squat proportions and short rear overhangs. The typical proportions of a 3 Series remain, but the exterior design is more toned and muscular, bringing some the aggressiveness and design lines seen in the recent models, including the F10 5 Series. An expected move seen across the new BMW design language.

BMW is getting back to basics with clean uncluttered shapes, plus lower and wider kidney grille openings. The sedan model has a longer wheelbase, at least 1.5″ longer than the current generation. The F30 will sport a “pushing nose”, somewhat similar to the E89 Z4 front-end.

BMW will live under the umbrella of EfficientDynamics, and technologies like aerodynamically designed wheels, solar roof panel for extra energy efficiency in the use of interior controls, brake energy regeneration , stop-start technology, and pre-heating technology for the engine, gearbox and differential, will be incorporated into the new model.

Next generation 3-series engine options will include a full range of turbo and naturally aspirated 6-cylinder motors, 4-cylinder motors, and possibly even a new 3-cylinder motor.

The all-star BMW M3 will continue to sport the aggressive and super sporty bodystyle we have seen in the past. The new M3 will also feature a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine producing somewhere around 450 horsepower.

2010 VW Passat CC

2010 VW Passat CC
2010 VW Passat CC
2010 VW Passat CC2010 VW Passat CC

It has been said that every man is an island. Nowhere is that more true than at the gym. As any gymgoer can tell you, there are few situations more awkward than that of being forced to exchange grunted syllables between panting breaths with a complete stranger.

That said, go to the gym with any sort of regularity, and you can’t help but get to know the few other gentlemen that make the same daily pilgrimage as yourself. Such was the situation in which the Volkswagen Passat CC was brought to my attention for the first time in this calendar year. Having recently had his Jetta TDI manhandled by a large American sedan, a fellow gymgoer confessed that he hoped his Jetta would be written off so as to put him in a fiscal situation that would allow the purchase of a Passat CC. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. Why? Well, simply put, my own frontal lobe is not often occupied with thoughts of Volkswagen’s upper-crust sedan, and I’d assumed others were similarly ignorant of Volkswagen’s second attempt to outflank Audi’s premium image.

And why shouldn’t they be? After all, the CC follows in the premium footsteps of the ill-fated Phaeton as Volkswagen’s most luxurious car. But there’s one crucial difference. While the Phaeton offered buyers little to lure them away from the more premium image of the Audi A8 upon which it was based, the Passat CC takes the well known Passat badge into a far more luxurious and upscale market. Essentially reversing the Phaeton formula, this exaltation of a standard model into the luxury market is a relatively new and interesting concept, and one that will remain unique to Volkswagen. Straddling the line between premium and economy markets, Volkswagen’s pairing of a completely new car with an existing nameplate helps ease the CC’s introduction through the Passat’s familiarity, but doesn’t sully the luxury product’s name with an unduly pedestrian badge.

However, if this new marketing strategy has one drawback, it’s the degree of anonymity that it imbues upon the Passat CC, which brings me back to the previous point. As an automotive journalist, it’s not uncommon to be questioned about a new car from passerby who have seen it on TV or on the newsstand. Typically, questions pertain to speed, power, fuel economy and price, but in the Passat CC’s case, the most common question was “what is it.” And the answer usually came as a surprise. After all, with a sleek, coupe-like silhouette, it looks like nothing else in the VW line. Boasting a new and unique unibody, the longer, lower, wider stance of the Passat CC is already far removed from that of its namesake. Of course, it’s also improved with the judicious application of numerous small touches like frameless windows and a smaller, more flowing trunklid. In all but the basic Sport model, a panoramic sunroof provides ventilation from the driver’s side pillar to the passenger’s, and four different and unique styles of wheels provide model-specific identification. It’s worth noting that the top-spec V6 4MOTION Highline comes with a set of 18” wheels that may be the most attractive on the market today; channelling the turbine style made famous by Mercedes Benz’s SLR supercar.

Opening the shapely door surprises even more than does the luxurious exterior treatment. Spurning many of the Volkswagen interior styling cues that populate the rest of the line, the CC’s interior is a welcome change. While the majority of VW products are endowed with somewhat monochromatic interiors, the CC’s contrasts colours, textures, and shapes beautifully to give the cabin an air of drama. First, there’s the simplistic (and admittedly familiar) dash pad that stretches uninterrupted from one side to another, directly above a long strip of bright brushed aluminum that incorporates a pair of slide-out storage bins.. Although conventionally laid out below, the controls are rendered in a new way, with switches and dials that appear to be an equal-parts collaboration between Audi and VW. Blessedly, the rubberized flat black finish that used to dominate VW controls is minimized, with the HVAC controls now being finished in silver and piano black. As a nice finishing touch, the automatic dual zone climayte control temperatures are now displayed around the switch in orange LED. The remainder of the HVAC controls are reworked substantially with a new layout that condenses the control panel and looks far, far more interesting without degrading their ease of use. Similarly, the steering wheel controls are quite a bit more high-tech looking, but still remain easy to manipulate. But best of all is the new navigation unit. Having long since been overdue for a revamping, my tester used a new touch-screen navigation system that is a massive improvement over the distinctly ‘90s looking VW-standard-issue indigo-illuminated entertainment systems of yore. With a glossy high resolution screen (think new, glossy laptop LCDs vs old, flat-finish laptop LCDs) and a slick black and red colour scheme, it’s thoroughly 21st century.

Using a stocky block of plastic trimmed in aluminum as a key, the familiar VR6 powerplant fires up without any hesitation, but betrays its performance heritage with a slightly gruff sound while running through its cold start routine. Backed by the fantastic benchmark of a transmission that is VW’s DSG gearbox, moving away is a drama-free affair into which engine noise simply doesn’t intercede. With tons of soft-touch materials and undoubtedly a whackload of sound deadening, the Passat CC’s cabin is startlingly quiet while puttering about town, but the suspension gives away the car’s sporting demeanour. With a four link rear suspension and triangular wishbones suspended by MacPherson struts up front, the car rides with authority over undulations; transmitting the road surface into the driver’s derriere without overpowering it. Round a corner and the thick anti-roll bars put a stop to any perceptible body roll from unnerving any of the four occupants, while the low profile tires and 18” wheels provide nearly perfect levels of feedback. On dry and wet pavement the car handles exquisitely, and although its performance numbers may not back such a claim up, it feels every bit capable of challenging BMW’s indominatable 335xi sedan. With stupendous levels of grip, it’s holds its line through nearly every corner, with the powerful and linear V6 and lightening fast DSG gearbox working perfectly in concert to provide maximum thrust on every single corner exit. However, any buyers looking to traverse the snowy mountain ranges of Canada’s winter will need to invest in some winter tires, as the stock rubber is sadly inadequate when it comes to dealing with the white stuff.

It’s not too often that a car surprises me. Having tested my fair share of automobiles, you come to expect certain qualities, both good and bad, to appear in any given manufacturer’s cars. After all, manufacturers put massive amounts of manpower into ensuring that each new model fits seamlessly into their existing product line; incorporating recognizable features and styling cues so as to not alienate their existing clientele, while adding just enough new stuff to attract new buyers that would otherwise never consider the brand. And although there may not be much to tie the Passat CC to the rest of the Volkswagen lineup, it would appear that they’ve hit the nail on the head. Because while the majority of the people who approached me about the car were unsure of its model designation, the fact is, most of those people were already driving Volkswagens. And be it due to the car’s slippery shape or upper-crust interior, the admiration those other Volkswagen owners felt for their favourite brand’s most luxurious offering was readily apparent. And thanks to Volkswagen’s marketing team, the Passat CC is a car that even the lowliest Volkswagen owner can readily aspire to own. With a starting MSRP of $33,075, it’s the V6 4Motion Highline that’s the real steal of the bunch with a fully loaded price of $49,100. Substantially less than you’d be paying for a similarly equipped 3-series Bimmer or C-class Mercedes, it’s stately and eye-catching looks and voluptuous interior offer fantastic value for your dollar. Easily the best Volkswagen I’ve ever driven, this is one car that I won’t soon forget.

The Volkswagen Passat CC (also known as the Volkswagen CC in the United States[1] and South Africa) is a 4-door coupé version of the Volkswagen Passat. It debuted in January 2008 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The suffix CC stands for Comfort Coupé and the car is marketed by VW as a more luxurious vehicle than the standard Passat saloon.

The Passat CC falls between the Passat and the Phaeton in VW's range — while based on the Passat, and sharing its wheelbase, the CC is longer (+ 27 mm (1.06 in)), lower (− 50 mm (1.97 in)) and wider (+ 36 mm (1.42 in)) than the Passat.

2010 VW Sharan Nice Review

Last week we reported on VW’s little German tease of the 2010 Sharan on the VW web site in Germany, coyly showing just a partial front end and one wheel. But a week on there’s no such reticence with a full reveal of VW’s big people carrier at Geneva.

The last generation of the Sharan shared a platform with Ford’s Galaxy, but the 2010 Volkswagen Sharan is a purely VW venture -based as it is on VW’s flexible MQB platform – and comes complete with the standard fashion accessory for a people carrier of sliding rear doors, and a more flexible seven-seat layout. It’s grown too, by a not insubstantial 220mm (about 8.5″) in length and 92mm in width (3.5″), although it sits a tad lower.

Those new sliding rear doors (which can be electrically operated if you want. But don’t bother; it’s a novelty for the first day and then it just becomes frustrating as they’re always too slow) offer better access to the more flexible interior. The three centre seats can be moved fore and aft and folded flat when not in use. The third row of seats is now big enough for full sized people (although perhaps not rugby team size) and also fold flat.

There’s a choice of four engines for the 2010 Sharan – 2 diesel and two petrol. Diesel options are both 2.0-litre common rail with 140 or 170 PS. The 2.0-litre TDI 140 gets 52.3 mpg with143 g/km of CO2. The 170 Sharan emits 152 g/km CO2 and does 49.5 mpg. Both diesel models get Stop-Start and regenerative braking.

Petrol options are a 1.4-litre TSI petrol with150 PS and 38.1 mpg with 172 g/km of CO2 , and a 2.0-litre with a DSG ‘box and 200 PS, 201 g/km of CO2 and 32.8 mpg. The Sharan 2.0 litre petrol – the ‘Hot’ Sharan – has to make do without the eco toys, but the 1.4 petrol does get the same top-Start and regenerative braking as the diesels.

VW hasn’t come up with pricing or model info for the 2010 Sharan yet. We do know it will go on sale in the UK later in 2010 and we’ll get the info as soon as possible.

But from what we see the 2010 VW Sharan is a country mile ahead of the old model. Mind you, it should be. The old Sharan is little changed in almost 15 years.

2011 Volvo S60

2011 Volvo S602011 Volvo S60

The 2011 S60 looks like a Volvo, yet its more rakish and aggressive than anything that's ever before been in this Swedish brand's stable. The S60 is handsome, expressive, and organic all at once from the outside, with smooth contours and swooping lines matched up with a low, wedgy front and pert tail, and framed with large flashy alloy wheels. Inside the S60 has has an ultra-cool floating center stack of controls that pushes the Swedish design ethos into a hipper direction. Textures and design themes inside are far from the ordinary for luxury sedans.

All 2011 Volvo S60 models come in top-of-the-line T6 form—with a 300-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, all-wheel drive, and a six-speed automatic transmission. While the automatic transmission doesn't always respond as quickly as we'd hope, the engine is smooth, sweet, and strong, with an uninterrupted rush of power when you need it. The first impression of the S60, from behind the wheel, is that it's relatively benign yet more charismatic than Volvos of the past. Unlike sharp enthusiast sedans like the Mitsubishi Evolution, Subaru WRX STI, or even to a degree the Nissan G37 or BMW 3-Series, the S60 doesn't reveal its sporting intent at every moment. Ride quality is firm but very absorbent, the cabin is tight and quiet, and it feels all the part of a luxury car.

In all, the whole package feels perky, responsive, and of course uber-stylish, and far warmer and inviting inside than you'd probably ever expect if you've taken a look at Volvo in the past. The interior is sleek and curvy yet functional, and a host of tech and entertainment options can be had. On the safety front, Volvo's Pedestrian Detection safety system can automatically stop the car if it detects a pedestrian and the driver fails to react.

The base Volvo S60, at about $38,000, might seem like a deal compared to the BMW 335i or Audi S4, but add any number of of tech or entertainment options to the S60 and you can easily push the bottom-line price past the $45,000 mark.

Volvo is busy preparing its entry to the midsize sedan market in the shape of the upcoming 2010 S60, which will feature radical new styling picked up by the automaker’s concept of the same name that was revealed at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. Earlier this month, production of the first-generation S60 finally came to an end, marking the end of an eight year product cycle that saw more than 580,000 cars roll off the line at the car’s Ghent factory in Belgium.

The new 2010 S60 is expected to go on sale early next year. This computer generated rendering provides a clue as to what the new car may look like, revealing that it will likely share most of the lines of the 2009 Volvo S60 concept car.

At first glance, the rendered sedan features definite coupe-like proportions, accompanied by strong shoulders, which together give it a look that is very similar to the design of the recent Jaguar C-XF concept vehicle. There are, however, plenty of unique elements such as the traditional Volvo grille and sculptured headlamps with LED bulbs.

Not much is known about the car’s future powertrain but one option will be a new 1.6-liter gasoline unit with turbocharging and direct-injection technologies. Previewed in concept form, the tiny mill develops a peak output of 180hp and a fuel economy rating of 47mpg. Drive will be sent to the front wheels via Volvo's PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

2013 Bugatti Veyron Review

The struggle to create the fastest production car on the planet will probably last forever. Since Bugatti presented its Supersport and competitor SSC showed its Ultimate Aero TT a new level of top speed has been rumoured.

Rumour says that the next Veyron will be even faster, 27km/h (17mph) to be precise. Power for the new Veyron would have to top at least 1,200bhp to make the 432km/h (270mph) target speed possible. Additionally, we would expect all-wheel drive, a dual-clutch gearbox, and turbocharging to remain within the setup.

The new looks of the second generation Veyron is unsure but we don’t expect to see any major design changes. First concept should be ready by early 2013 with official presentation later the same year.

Not just a super car that carries on the name of racing driver Pierre Veyron, who, while racing for the original Bugatti car manufacturer, won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the second fastest car in the world and the most powerful, it can easily pass as a super hero`s car like Batman. It has the fastest acceleration speed, reaching 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.

Endowed with W16 engine-16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders fed by four turbochargers, a dual-clutch DSG computer-controlled manual transmission, the Veyron has a length is 4462 mm (175.8 in) a wide of 1998 mm (78.7 in) and hight of 1206 mm (47.5 in). Counting a sum of 10 radiators, for the engine cooling system, for transmission oil, a heat exchanger for the air to liquid intercoolers, for engine oil etc., the car has a power to weight ratio of 529 bhp/tonne.

If we talk about performance we are dazzled by this supercars power to reach 200 and 300 km/h (124 and 186 mph) in 7.3 and respectively 16.7 seconds, wining for herself the name of the quickest-accelerating production car in history. If we count the fact that the top speed of Bugatti Veyron is 253.2 miles per hour (407.5 km/h), a speed limited electronically to prevent tire damage (it can run even faster) we can understand why this spectacular car must consume 40.4 L/100 km (4.82 mpg) when it`s running at top speed and in city driving 24.1 L/100 km.
A model drove by superstars like Tom Cruise, couldn`t name itself cheap, rising the Bugatti Veyron at least of $1,700,000, a price that measures it`s quality. Many new designs has been released since 2006, the color might have changed, but the speed and power remain the same.
