BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid

The close and direct link of concepts combining the new Sports Activity Coupe with innovative BMW ActiveHybrid technology ensures an authentic match of design and technology in every respect. The potential of BMW’s ActiveHybrid system develops its optimum effect in the unique concept of the Sports Activity Coupe,” said press materials.

What makes it tick? In short, it’s another hybrid vehicle: this X6 has General Motors and the artist formerly known as DaimlerChrysler coursing through its veins, which isn’t a bad thing. The automakers combined their hybrid efforts to develop the system G.M. calls its Two-Mode hybrid, bringing a new approach in piston-engine/electric-motor combinations into the market. Driving this Concept X6 is a gasoline V-8, a battery and a BMW-tweaked version of the two-mode hybrid system that G.M. has rolled out for its big S.U.V.’s (and Chrysler did, too, but only for an eye-blink).

How much, how soon? The X6 starts at $53,000. This X6 would cost more. For consumers, there could be a thick line between going green and having green
