Here's a set of spy shots of the upcoming 2012 Opel mini-SUV caught while wearing some pretty heavy camouflage.

The Corsa-based compact SUV was spied doing some road testing in the environs of an Opel facility in Germany. From the spy pics here we can gauge a little about the size and shape of this SUV and imagine some Corsa-like features to go with it. The car we see here is pretty compact and will fall into what is really a new segment being devised by automakers in Europe with such models as the Nissan Qashqai and the upcoming Audi Q3 - a class of SUV smaller than the likes of the VW Tiguan/Audi Q5, Opel Antara and Ford Kuga.

This baby-Antara is being developed by GM Daewoo and will share a lot of technology with the recently released Chevrolet Sonic which will go by the name Aveo in Europe.

A possible power plant for this compact SUV will be the turbocharged 1.4-liter with an output of 140 PS (138 bhp / 103 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque mated to a six-speed manual which will be fitted to the Sonic/Aveo.

The Opel mini-SUV is expected to debut next year.
